Vijaya Bank India

Vijaya Bank is one of the oldest nationalized banks in India. Vijaya bank was founded in 1931 by Mr. A.B. Shetty, a leading entrepreneur along with some prominent farmers of Mangalore, Karnataka.

The primary aim of founding fathers of Vijaya Bank is to cultivate banking habits among farmers in Southern Karnataka. Vijaya Bank became a scheduled bank in 1958. Between 1963 and 1968, nine local banks were merged with Vijaya Bank.

This helped the bank to consolidate financial capabilities and expand customer base.

Vijaya Bank was nationalized in October, 1980 and after becoming the nationalized banks in India, there was no looking back. Vijaya Bank has over 1100 branches, 48 extension counters, 365 ATMs in covering all states and union territories.

Vijaya Bank had undertaken an extensive computerization program in 2005 to bring all the branches in one network. Core banking solution was implemented at around 97% branches.

Later RTGS and NEFT were implemented in 747 branches to enable electronic funds transfer. This reduced paper work and the customer and bank working system improved, as well. Vijaya Bank provides net banking and phone banking solutions helping the customer in transacting business easily.
